Estimates and Scheduling

Do you provide free estimates?
Yes. Ryan’s Tree Service offers free estimates for planned tree work. Call 803-681-2923 and describe the service you may need, the property location, access conditions, and any immediate concerns. Emergency or storm-related situations may require a different first conversation because safety and timing must be evaluated before the full scope is known.
What information should I have when I call?
Share the property address, the number and location of the trees or stumps, what concerns you, and whether buildings, fences, vehicles, utility lines, septic areas, slopes, or narrow access are nearby. Photos can sometimes help with an initial conversation, but they do not replace an on-site evaluation when one is needed. Never enter an unsafe area to take them.
How soon can the work be scheduled?
Scheduling depends on the type and urgency of the work, safe access, weather, daylight, crew and equipment availability, travel, and the current workload. Storms and emergencies can also affect the schedule. Ryan’s can discuss the practical next step after learning more about the property.
Do I need to be at the property for the estimate or the work?
That depends on access, the decisions that need to be made, and whether the work area can be identified clearly. Ryan’s should confirm who needs to be present, how access will be provided, and how the approved scope will be documented before the appointment.

Service Area and Customers Served

What areas do you serve?
Ryan’s Tree Service is based in Lancaster, South Carolina, and serves customers throughout the surrounding region in South Carolina and North Carolina—generally within about an hour of Lancaster. Travel feasibility can vary by the type of work, weather, road conditions, equipment needs, and current demand. Not sure whether your property is within the service area? Call 803-681-2923.
Do you work on residential and commercial properties?
Ryan’s serves homeowners and may also undertake commercial, municipal, or institutional tree work when the project, access, equipment, schedule, and insurance requirements are a fit. Call with the property type and scope so Ryan’s can confirm whether the work is appropriate.
Are you insured?
Ryan’s Tree Service represents that it is fully insured. Before hiring any tree company, ask for current proof of the insurance appropriate to the work and verify that the company name and coverage information match the contractor performing the job.

Insurance and Storm Damage

Should I call Ryan’s or my insurance company first after tree damage?
If anyone is in immediate danger, a utility line is involved, or emergency access is blocked, call 911 or the appropriate utility first. When it is safe, contact Ryan’s about the tree hazard and notify your insurer promptly if a claim may be involved. Your insurer can explain coverage, documentation, and emergency-mitigation requirements; Ryan’s can discuss the tree-service work.
What should I document for an insurance claim?
Only when it is safe, preserve wide and detailed photographs of visible damage before cleanup, note the date and circumstances, and keep estimates, invoices, and communications. Ask your insurer what it specifically requires. Do not delay necessary safety action solely to collect photographs, and never enter a hazardous area to document damage.
Will insurance pay for tree removal or storm cleanup?
Coverage depends on the policy, what was damaged, why the work is needed, and the insurer’s determination. Ryan’s cannot promise coverage, claim approval, or reimbursement. Confirm those questions directly with your insurance company before relying on coverage.
Can Ryan’s work with my insurance claim?
Ryan’s can provide an estimate or invoice describing the agreed tree-service work and may be able to supply other project documentation that is routinely available. The exact documentation, communication with adjusters, direct-billing arrangements, and payment responsibilities should be confirmed before work begins. The insurer makes all coverage and reimbursement decisions.

Tree Work and Equipment

How do I know whether a tree needs trimming or removal?
Trimming may address selected dead, damaged, crowded, or interfering branches while preserving the tree. Removal may be the more appropriate recommendation when the whole tree presents a serious concern, is structurally compromised, is dead or declining beyond a practical trimming solution, or conflicts with the property in a way trimming cannot resolve. An on-site evaluation is often the clearest way to discuss the options.
Can you work on large trees close to a house or other structure?
Ryan’s handles difficult tree work, including trees near homes, buildings, fences, driveways, and other property features. The method depends on the tree’s condition, surrounding obstacles, access, equipment setup, weather, and the safest practical work plan. Some trees can be removed in controlled sections; others may benefit from crane-assisted removal.
When is a crane used?
A crane may help lift and control large sections when a tree is difficult to access, elevated, damaged, or close to structures and other obstacles. Crane use is not automatic. Ryan’s determines whether it fits the work plan after considering the tree, load, setup area, ground conditions, access, weather, utilities, and surrounding property.
Can you work near power lines?
Treat every tree or limb touching or close to a power line as a serious hazard. Keep people and pets away and contact the utility. Do not touch the tree, line, nearby fence, equipment, or anything else that may be energized. Utility coordination or a properly qualified line-clearance contractor may be required before tree work can proceed.

Cleanup and Stump Grinding

What happens to limbs, logs, chips, and debris?
Debris handling should be stated in the estimate or agreed scope. Depending on the job, material may be chipped, hauled away, cut to an agreed length, stacked in a designated location, or left for another party. Ask specifically about large logs, firewood, wood chips, non-tree debris, and any municipal or disposal requirements so expectations are clear before work begins.
Is stump grinding included with tree removal?
Stump grinding is a separate service unless it is specifically included in the estimate. Tree removal addresses the standing tree; stump grinding uses different equipment and involves separate decisions about access, grinding depth, chips and soil, surface roots, cleanup, and the future use of the area.
Does stump grinding remove all of the roots?
No. Grinding reduces the visible stump and may address some nearby surface roots included in the scope, but it does not excavate the entire underground root system. If you plan to build, pour concrete, install utilities, or place something structural in the area, explain that before the estimate because excavation or work by another contractor may be needed.
Will the property look exactly as it did before the work?
Ryan’s can perform the agreed tree work and cleanup while taking reasonable care around the property, but tree removal, equipment access, stump grinding, and storm damage can disturb turf, soil, landscaping, or other surfaces. The estimate should clarify access protection, debris handling, raking or cleanup, landscape restoration, grading, and any work that falls outside the tree-service scope.

Choosing the Right Service

What qualifies as an emergency tree problem?
Call for Emergency Tree Service when a tree or limb creates an immediate threat to people, an occupied structure, utility lines, emergency access, or a necessary entrance. Widespread fallen limbs, multiple damaged trees, and broader debris removal may be handled as Storm Cleanup after immediate hazards are addressed.
What if I am not sure which service I need?
Call 803-681-2923 and describe what you see, what concerns you, and what is nearby. Ryan’s can help identify whether the next conversation should focus on Tree Removal, Tree Trimming, Stump Grinding, Emergency Tree Service, or Storm Cleanup.
